Acharya Mahashraman
The eleventh Acharya and Supreme Head of the Jain Swetembar Terapanth group, Acharya Shree Mahashraman is renowned as a great spiritual thinker with extraordinary genius and minute insight and intuition, a scholar, brilliant orator and meditator. Born on 13 May 1962 at Sardarsahar in Rajasthan, Acharya Mahashraman was initiated as a monk at the age of 12 years. His internal austerity and devotion earned him the honour of ‘Mahashraman’ on 9 September 1989 and of ‘Mahatapasvi’ (A great austere), a title given to him by Acharya Mahapragya. At the young age of 35, owing to his prolific personality and values, he was designated as the ‘Yuvacharya’ by Achary Mahapragya. On 9 May 2010, Acharya Mahashraman succeeded Acharya Mahapragya as the Acharya when the latter left for his heavenly abode. His Padabhishek was held at Sardarshahar on 23 May 2010.
Acharya Mahashraman’s scholarly prowess is regarded with respect the world over and they reflect his vast knowledge, intellectual wisdom, and far-reaching insight. A firm believer in non-violence, moral values and principles, Acharya Mahashraman seeks to promote these virtues among the people.
Acharya Mahashraman and Preksha Meditation
Under the guidance of the Preksha Meditation pioneer, Acharya Mahapragya, Acharya Mahashraman has attained the true depth of contemplation through the rigorous practice of Preksha Meditation. Under his direction, innumerable seminars and camps of Preksha Meditatioj have been organized all over the world.
The Anushasta: Acharya Mahashraman
Under the Anuvrat Movement, along with his mentors Acharya Shree Tulsi and Acharya Mahapragya, Acharya Mahashraman has been proactive in social reformative programmes such as Dowry System, Purdah System, Child Marriage, blind faith in orthodox beliefs, isolation and seclusion of widows, among others. In this era of modern beliefs and practices, Anuvrat Anushasta Mahashraman is successfully propagating the Anuvrat Movement by spreading the message of ‘Self-discipline is Life’.
The insightful and reformative educational program for holistic development of the future generations, Science of Living Education system, propounded by the Lokmaharshi Acharya Shri Mahapragya, is now under the auspicious guidance of Acharya Shri Mahashraman. His Holiness is also the ‘Anushasta’ of Jain Vishva Bharati University in Rajasthan. His Holiness has also initiated a programme for the propagation of non-violence, under which 300 centres have been developed.
Erudite Scholar
A scholar of great repute and a prolific writer, through his inspirational works Acharya Mahashraman has contributed significantly towards character building in our country. Some of his notable works include Aao Hum Jeena Sikhe (Lets learn to live), Dukh Mukti ka Marg (Way to triumph over sorrows), Sanwad Bhagwan Se (A Dialogue with God), Kya Kehta hai Jain Vangmay (What does The Jain Aagam Say), Mahatma Mahapragya, and Shemushi. His Holiness has also been involved in the editing and translation of Jain Aagams and scriptures and it is his persistence which as led to the development of the Dictionary of Jain technical words. He is also deeply committed towards the cause of preserving Rajasthani literary works.
